Saying Goodbye

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

A few days ago, my cousin Ben left to go to University.  He worked really hard to get good grades and always did all his homework. Ben is very kind, helpful, and charming.  I admire him because he works hard at school, goes to the gym every day to get stronger, and always cares about others.  I also admire him because he is the oldest of 3 children and takes care of his younger brother and sister. He takes them to school every day and helps them with homework.

This summer, Ben and I spent a lot of time together before he left.  We went for a run on the beach, and on the way back, he told me different stories about Greek mythological heroes such as Achilles and Spartacus, so the run isn't as boring.  He  also went boogie boarding with me after the run to cool down.  Once Ben started driving, he took me to different places like Sky High and Knotts Berry Farm.  He also bought us ice cream any time we wanted.  He even babysat my younger brother and sister this summer. He picked them up in the morning, took them swimming, fed them lunch, and played with them.

Now that he is in University  I wish him to study well and make many new friends.  I will miss him very very much, and I can't wait to see him in December!

Sarah and Ben

 We love you Ben!

Have you ever had to say goodbye to someone special?

  1. Dear Miriam,

What a beautiful tribute to your cousin Ben. He is going to flip when he reads your post and views the pictures you've uploaded. What I love is that he will be able to always look at this and that will bring him great comfort! :-)

I've had to say goodbye to many special people over my lifetime. As people grow up and move on with their lives, we don't get to see them as much. That is why I always try to make an effort to see people and spend quality time with them. Plus, the Internet makes it very easy to stay connected. Maybe you can Skype with Ben!

What will Ben be studying at school?

    Your proud former teacher,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

    1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Thank you for your comment. As we were driving to the beach, my mom gave me her phone and I texted Ben. He was very fast in responding that he will Skype us when ever he has the time. I will miss him very much! See you when school starts.

Ben is a science major and wants to go into the medical field. He doesn't yet know what.

      Sincerely,
      Miriam

  2. Dear Miriam
Reading your special words about your cousin Ben made me think forward to how I will feel in February next year when my younger daughter heads off to college (which we call university).
It's always a big change when you don't see someone as often as you are used to, but it is exciting to see young people making their way in life. I know I will miss her but she will only be three hours away.

Are you already thinking ahead? What are your future plans?

    warm wishes
    Mrs McKenzie

  3. Dear Miriam,

I really enjoy reading all about your special relationship you have with your cousin Ben. I think this is so wonderful.

He really is lucky too to have you as a cousin too.
I remember when I had to move away for my cousins to go to live on a farm I was very upset. But then we made it a point of visiting each other during the school holidays.

Now we are all grow up and have families of our own and try to catch up as often as we can.

I somehow I get the feeling you and your cousin will do so as well.

    From your friend down under,
    AA

  4. Hi Miriam.
I enjoyed reading your blog post and could feel the emotions you experienced saying goodbye to your cousin. He sounds like a pretty special person. The stories he told you sound really interesting and I know my own children would like to hear them. They have read a lot about Greek mythology in a book called Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Have you ever heard of it?
I am a Year 3/4 teacher in Melbourne, Australia and I think your blog is a great example for my students.. We have a class blog but not individual ones yet as we are new to blogging.
Keep up the wonderful work and keep on sharing,
    Mary

    1. Dear Ms. Jones,

Thank you for your comment. It is wonderful that you are starting a class blog. Maybe when your students get more experienced in blogging, they too could earn their own blog and we could be blogging buddy's.

I have never read Percy Jackson or the Lightning Thief. Next time I go to the library, I will get these books.

      Sincerely,
      Miriam

  5. Dear Miriam,

I really enjoyed your post! It was also very sad to say goodbye to Ben. I always enjoyed how he would come to the beach with us, and how he would lift me up on the waves.

I am looking forward to seeing him or skyping with him. Hopefully, he will be home in time to celebrate my birthday. I love you very much!

    Sincerely,
    Sarah

Like Sarah said I really enjoyed reading your post. I am sure it was sad to say goodbye to Ben your cousin.

Ben looks really kind. I sure have had to say goodbye to someone which was my cousin. When I was in prep my cousin left school so I only saw her for only a year. I sure did miss my cousin.

I hope you have fun Skyping with Ben.

  7. Dear Miriam,

I've never had to say goodbye to anyone before, but in about a years time, my sister will be going to the opposite side of the world for 28 days. It will be sad to see her leave, but she wants to go to this place so badly.

When she comes back, I will spend one or two years at High School with her and then she's going away again. She will still be in NZ with my family and I, just far away.

I have my own blog too: http://miss-mollys-blog.blogspot.co.nz/

Say good luck to Ben for me!
    Molly

  9. Dear Mira,
I don't know how I could have not seen this post up until now. It is really touching, and reminds me of all the fun times we spent together. College is great, and I am having a great time here, even if there is a lot of work and many changes to get accustomed to. However, I still miss you and think about all of you. I really look forwards to seeing you over winter break, and seeing how much you've grown over the time that I will have been away.

    Love,
    Ben
