Fashionable Friendship Bracelets!

This summer, I decided to make a friendship bracelet.  A friendship bracelet is a bracelet that is made from string or yarn that you give to your friend.  The first step to a friendship bracelet is to find a friend. A good friend is someone who is nice, fun to be around, and caring. My best friend Adia, has all of those characteristics and came up with the title for this post.  Thank you Adia.  Every week this summer, Adia and I took turns coming over to each others houses.  We swam in the pool, made friendship bracelets, played board games, played ping pong, and did many other activities.

Here are the steps to make a friendship bracelet:

  1. Pick out the colored string that your friend would like.  Use at least three or more different colors.
  2. Tie all three of your strings into a knot at the top.
  3. Tape the string to your thigh or another hard surface (e.g. desk)
  4. Pick one string and make a shape of a four.
  5. Take the end of the four and put it under the strings. Pull it forward so it forms a knot around the other strings.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the same color 5 to 10 times.
  7. Follow the same instructions to create a pattern with the other strings.
  8. Give it to your friend.
  9.
    Step 4

    Step 5

Have you ever made a friendship bracelet?

Do you have a best friend?

What do you like to do with your best friend?

  1. Dear Miriam,

What a crafty person you are and making this beautiful bracelet out of string. WOW!

I really loved the fact it is called a friendship bracelet. I did make bracelets when I was your age but I made them out of daisy flowers.

I still have my long time best friend. We have been best friends since grade prep.
We just love to catch up with each other and chat.

  2. I used to make friendship bracelets all the time at sleep-away camp. Did you make friendship bracelets there too? Is that where you learned? Once you have mastered making friendship bracelets, you should try doing landyards, I will show you.

    Love you,

  3. Dear Miriam,

I love this new post about friendship bracelets! You did a knock-out job writing the directions. That is a very difficult writing task, but you really were successful! Well done, Miriam!

Your use of numbers and specific verbs will be helpful to anyone looking to make one of these bracelets. As usual, your fabulous photos add to the text and make the directions easier to understand.

Yes, I have made a friendship bracelet. I learned how to do it when Ryan's mom came to our party at the end of the year. Here's our Photo of the Day from our 365 Blog:

I wonder if you could add things like beads or charms to a friendship bracelet. What do you think?

I would say my best friend is Mr. Yollis. Yes, we are a married couple, but he is the definition of a best friend. He always listens when I'm talking and tries to help me when I have a problem. In addition, he goes out of his way to do thoughtful things for me. We like to do outdoor types of activities like biking, hiking, and swimming. Friendship makes the world special! :-)

Thanks for a great post, Miriam!

    Mrs. Y♥llis

  4. Aloha Miriam,
You did a wonderful job of describing how to make a friendship bracelet. You were very concise and the photographs were also helpful.

I have not made a friendship bracelet but when I was growing up we made lanyards. You took strips of colored plastic and braided them and then with a special type of braid you made a box shape in the middle. This box separated whatever you placed on your lanyard so it wouldn't slide around.

I have to say my best friend is Mr. Jacobs. We have been best friends for thirty-eight years. He has always been supportive of me with everything I have wanted to do and that is the so important.
    A hui hou!

  5. Miriam,
I really enjoyed reading your blog. I saw a link from Mrs. Yollis and I am so glad she shared it.

I made a lot of friendship bracelets during my summers growing up. Your directions were great. I was able to picture them in my head and I am sure I could make a bracelet again after reading them.

Your blog is very interesting. Your questions at the end, make me want to comment to give you an answer!

My students are going to love learning about bracelets.

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. Dear Miriam,

I love this post and I feel that was so nice of you to make a friendship bracelet which you then gave to Adia.

I bet she really loves it!

The only time I have made a friendship bracelet is with beads and raw paste which I then painted.
I enjoy talking and playing games with my special friends.

    From your pal,
    Bianca.

  7. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Thank you for leaving me a comment. You gave me such a good idea of putting beads on the friendship bracelets, that I might try doing it right now.

Thank you for the link to 365.

    Your blogging buddy,

  8. Hi Miriam,

Your friendship bracelet blog is wonderful. A personally made gift from a friend is something to treasure.

IN my last class, we would often make bracelets and necklaces but never attempted a friendship bracelet. I must try it with some children.
